District Commander Col. Philip Secrist welcomed Marshall University President Dr. Jerome Gilbert for a tour of the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam. Corps employees gave Dr. Gilbert an overview of the lock, its history, how it manages navigation, keeps industry moving on the Ohio River and its effect on the environment of the river. Dr. Gilbert also watched a tow pushing 15 barges loaded with coal lock through the main lock chamber.
