Danger Zone

Dolly Sods
in the Monongahela National Forest, West
Virginia
The
Danger Zones are anywhere you find UXO.
What
are UXO?
UXO
= UneXploded
Ordnance
UXO = mortars, bullets,
etc.
All
UXO are dangerous!
During World War II,
the U.S. Army used Dolly Sods for target practice.
Some of the ammunition,
mortar shells, and other UXO are still in the ground.


Spot
- UXO
can be found in many shapes and sizes. UXO
can be new or old, shiny or rusty, clean or dirty.

Rules of UXO safety.
If you learn what to do, you can keep friends, family, and yourself
safe on your visit here.
Here are photos to help you Spot UXO.
- Do
not touch anything that can be UXO.
- All UXO
can kill or injure.
If you spot
UXO stay at least 50 feet away.
To point out UXO:
- Make an arrow using
rocks.

- Hang a bandana.
- Make an arrow with
sticks.

Using one of the three
ways shown above, point to the location of the UXO.
Walk Away
- Leave the area.
- Go back the way
you came.
