Clendening Lake is located in Harrison County, Ohio on the Brushy Fork of the Stillwater Creek, 1/2 mile east of Tippecanoe, Ohio, and 9 miles southeast of Uhrichsville, Ohio. Clendening Lake was constructed in 1937. It was built for flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife management. At summer pool elevation, the lake is 1,800 acres. Clendening Dam is a rolled earth fill with impervious core, 65 feet high, 3,700 feet long, with a top width of 20 feet, and a base width of 460 feet. The recreation facilities at Clendening Lake include a marina and a campground. These are administered by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. Clendening Lake has been designated to remain in an undeveloped "natural" state with few access points permitted. The dam is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There is a recreation area near the dam which includes picnic tables, grills, and a playground. This area is for Day Use only. Restrooms are provided at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April through October).
