The City of Ripley, WV, celebrated the signing of a Project Partnership Agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a Section 571 Environmental Infrastructure water and wastewater project. Taking part in the ceremony on Oct. 15, 2020, were Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, District Commander Col. Jason Evers, WV USDA Director Kris Warner, Ripley Mayor Carolyn Rader and other state and local officials.
Jason Ritter, Randy Campbell, Mike Johnson, Steve Caldwell and Cecil Cox have deployed to support wildfire recovery efforts in Oregon supporting the Portland District. FEMA Region X approved 3 counties in Oregon for a temporary housing mission. Wildfires have displaced nearly 800 families who are eligible for federal assistance. They are assisting in developing 100 travel trailer locations in Jackson and Clackamas Counties. They are also investigating other options such as Multi-Family Leases and Repair (MLRP) locations.
The 54th Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite relinquished command of USACE to Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon during a change of command ceremony held Sept. 10, 2020. We appreciate all the hard work and leadership LTG Semonite has shown us throughout his career, and look forward to the new leadership of LTG Spellmon as new commanding general of USACE.
