Small Business Overview

Small businesses are the engine of our economy and a vital part of the Department of Defense procurement process.  With our ever-changing needs, all small business socioeconomic categories face new and different challenges. It is the Huntington District's constant goal to maximize the use of small, small disadvantaged, 8(a), HUBZone, women-owned, veteran-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses to maintain a high degree of readiness, provide economic security and advance the technology of the United States.

Mission Statement

To sustain the Corps of Engineers as a premier organization in developing small businesses and maximizing their opportunities to participate in our procurements, thereby ensuring a broad base of capable suppliers to support the Corps of Engineers’ mission and strengthen our Nation’s economic development.


The Corps of Engineers has, in addition to its ongoing missions, been tapped as a resource to assist in solving some of the challenges presented at this time of Worldwide and National threat. 

Our small businesses have been greatly impacted by the response to this pandemic in that their employees may be required to shelter in place, requiring them to close their doors for the time being.  The Corps relies heavily upon small businesses to carry out its mission and will continue to rely on them during this time.

Small businesses are encouraged to reach out to the Small Business Administration, the Small Business Professionals in the Corps and other agencies, and their local Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) for news and updates about measures being taken to support small businesses.  The SBA web-site is  To locate your nearest PTAC, go to and enter your address.  We stand ready to assist in any way we can.
