Release no. 18-016

Sutton Lake

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In the fall, you rake the leaves. In the spring, you “Rake the Lake.”

Every spring, a group of volunteers come to Sutton Lake in Sutton, W.Va., for the “Rake the Lake” Cleanup. This year it’s scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a picnic afterwards.

It is the perfect chance to gather friends, grab a kayak, canoe, pontoon, or john boat, and come make a difference.  There are volunteer opportunities for those who do not have a boat as well.

If you are interested, you may register with the Corps of Engineers at Sutton Lake by calling 304-765-2816 or e-mailing SuttonLake@usace.army.mil. Volunteers are encouraged to register ahead of time either with the Corps Office at Sutton Lake or with the Sutton Lake Marina.  The first 100 people who register will receive a free T-Shirt.

On-site registration will begin at 9:30 a.m, in Bee Run Day Use Area. Volunteers may also leave from Gerald Freeman or Bakers Run Campground Launch Ramps.  Trash bags and gloves will be provided. The clean-up is followed by a barbeque from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sutton Lake Marina in Bee Run.

Join us this year to “Rake the Lake” and make your favorite corner of West Virginia shine.
