Zoar Levee and Diversion Dam Safety Modification Study Office Hours Announced
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.… The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold office hours Wednesday, August 15 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. to inform residents of Zoar about the progress of the Zoar Levee and Diversion Dam Safety Modification Study and address their questions and concerns.
The office hours will be held at the Dover Dam Engineer’s Office, adjacent to the Dover Dam and Muskingum Area Office, 5360 state Route 800 Northeast, Dover, Ohio.
As a result of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, the Corps is now conducting a Dam Safety Modification Study that will seek to identify and recommend a management plan for Zoar Levee and Diversion Dam that will provide the most effective reduction of risk to the public.
Dam Safety concerns are addressed on a risk-informed approach, or one that is based on the critical nature of the dam and/or levee.
Under the Corps’ five-tier classification system, called the Dam Safety Action Classification (DSAC), Zoar Levee and Diversion Dam is listed as a DSAC I, or "urgent and compelling." The public’s participation is essential and necessary in order to find the best plan to reduce risk.
