Tours Offered at Alum Creek Dam

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be providing tours of the dam at Alum Creek Lake on July 6, 2013, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.. The tours are free to the public.

The tours will start in the Below Dam Recreation Area at 4360 Lewis Center Road. Meet the park ranger at the Bulletin Board (near the restroom building) in the Below Dam Recreation Area. The tour will proceed up the 116 steps to the top of the dam. Alternate access to the top the dam is available from the west end parking area and paved access road to the spillway.

The tour will last about 30 minutes. Rangers will explain how the dam was built along with its purpose and benefits. For visitors with special needs, please call the lake office prior to tour date at (740) 548-6151.

The public is also encouraged to stop by the Alum Creek Lake Visitor Center during their visit. The center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with interactive exhibits and area maps and information.
