Published Aug. 13, 2013

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District will conduct a pulse release on Aug. 20, 2013 at East Lynn Lake beginning at 7 a.m.Water releases will gradually increase below the dam in Twelvepole Creek and peak around 2 p.m. at 1600 cubic feet per second and then gradually decrease to normal operations by 10 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2013.The pulse is expected to raise the water level by 7 feet downstream of the dam but will remain well below flood stage. The public should be aware of fluctuations in Twelvepole Creek resulting from this release.

This controlled release will provide valuable information on how pulsed flows, after a large rain event, affect the temperature, sedimentation and aquatic habitat downstream of the dam.The objective of this study is to look at ways to improve water quality and ecological resources in Twelvepole Creek.
