R.D. Bailey Lake Opens Guyandotte Campground

Huntington, W.Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at R.D. Bailey Lake will open Guyandotte Campground on May 19, 2014, at 9 a.m.

The campground offers 50 amp electrical hookups, 6 full hook-up sites, horseshoe pits, bike riding, fishing and picnicking. Picnicking is allowed in the campground until 10 p.m. 

The camping fees for the Guyandotte Campground are $16 per night for a standard campsite, $24 per night for full hook-up sites, and $26 for a double ‘buddy’ campsite. Spaces are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

The entrance gate at the park attendant building will be locked at 11 p.m. and opened at 7 a.m. daily.  Campers are able to exit the campground, but the entrance gate remains closed until 7 a.m. daily.

R.D. Bailey Lake is at the summer pool level and the Guyandotte Point Recreation Area and boat launch is currently open. The Big Branch Recreation Area is open. Shelter reservations can be made by calling 877-444-6777.

The below dam fisherman’s access offers good fishing opportunities for those who do not want to venture out on the water. The area also offers security lighting for late night fishing. Trout stocking in the tail waters is done by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources with high catch rates. The Justice Hiking Trail is open daily, offering a view of the river, trees and wildflowers. The trail follows the access road to the winter launch ramp or veers left up Lost Branch for a more challenging hike. The Salt River Ridge Top Trail is open daily Monday thru Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Part of the Ridge Top Trial running along the ridge line is closed due to downed trees.
