LEWIS CENTER, Ohio – Join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Rangers to celebrate the Great American Backyard Campout on Saturday, June 28 at Alum Creek Lake from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Learn skills you can use to camp in your backyard or a campground: build a fire, set up a tent, enjoy s'mores, dress up like a ranger or take a tour of the dam.
Activities will take place between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., with a dam tour at 1p.m sharp. All activities except the dam tour will take place at the Alum Creek Lake Visitor Center located at 5905 Lewis Center Road Lewis Center, Ohio.
The dam tour will start in the Below Dam Recreation Area at 1p.m. Please join the park ranger at the bulletin board near the restroom in the Below Dam Recreation Area. The tour will proceed up 116 steps to the top of the dam. The tour will last about 30 minutes. Rangers will explain why and how the dam was built and how it impacts the local area. All activities are free and if anyone has special needs or requires alternate access to the top of the dam, please call the park office at 740-548-6151 prior to June 28.
The Alum Creek Lake Visitor Center is open daily from 8a.m. until 4p.m. and enthusiastically welcomes guests. Come check out the interactive exhibits, area information and nature films.
