Bluestone Dam to Temporarily Stop Flows Oct. 8

Published Oct. 3, 2014

Huntington, W.Va.  – The water flowing through the Bluestone Dam in Hinton, W.Va., will be temporarily stopped by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Oct. 8, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to allow Corps personnel to conduct a regular periodic inspection of the sluice gates.

Crews will begin closing the gates on the dam early in the morning. Once the inspection is completed, the gates will be slowly opened and the New River will be returned to a normal flow.

The Corps of Engineers has planned this event in cooperation with the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. Those organizations will also conduct a fish survey downstream from the dam at that time.
