Zoar Draft DSMS Public Available for Public Comment

Published Dec. 23, 2014

Huntington, W.Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District has prepared a draft Dam Safety Modification Report (DSMR) / draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) and a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Zoar Levee & Diversion Dam, Dam Safety Modification Study and made them available for public review and comment.

This signifies the completion of the Dam Safety Modification Study (DSMS) to identify a risk management plan to reduce unacceptable dam safety risks at Zoar Levee & Diversion Dam. The integrated DEA documents the potential effects to the human environment that risk management alternatives may have, and how these potential effects were considered in identifying the risk management plan or the preferred action alternative.

In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and 40 CFR 1501.4, the draft DSMR/DEA and draft FONSI must be available to the public in the affected area for thirty (30) days for review and comment.  Final determination regarding the need for additional NEPA documentation will be made after the public review period, which begins on Dec. 23, 2014.
