“Rake the Lake” Planned at Sutton Lake

Published March 30, 2016

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In the fall, you rake the leaves. In the spring, you “Rake the Lake.”

Every spring, a growing group of volunteers come to Sutton Lake in Sutton, W.Va., for the “Rake the Lake” Cleanup. This year it is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a picnic at 3 p.m.

In the wake of flooding last summer, efforts will be concentrated in the Wolf Creek area this year. The creek flowing into the lake is littered with tires, trash, and debris. Volunteers are welcome to boat into the area and work along the shoreline. Volunteers without boats are encouraged to meet at Wolf Creek.

The first 100 volunteers will receive a free T-shirt and everyone is invited to the Sutton Lake Marina after the work for a picnic. Trash bags and gloves will be provided.

If you are interested, you may register with the Corps of Engineers at Sutton Lake by calling 304-765-2816 or e-mail SuttonLake@usace.army.mil.  This event is sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sutton Lake, the Sutton Lake Marina, the WV Division of Environmental Protection and numerous local business.

Join us this year to “Rake the Lake” and make your favorite corner of West Virginia shine.
