  • 2015 Whitewater Releases for Gauley and Russell Fork Rivers

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the 2015 Whitewater schedule of releases for the Summersville and John W. Flannagan Lakes. The releases are made in conjuction with the normal drawdown of the associated reservoir to its Winter pool. The releases are considered by whitewater enthusiasts who frequent the Gauley and Russell Fork Rivers to be optimal times for whitewater related activities.

  • Sutton Dam to Offer Public Tours

    Sutton Dam has been busy in recent weeks, holding back rainfall to try to reduce flooding along the Elk River. Now the public can get a closer look at the dam operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Sutton, W.Va., as tours of the dam will be offered to the public on Sunday, July 26, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Huntington District Changes Command

    On Friday, July 12, 2015, at the Huntington City Hall Auditorium, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District conducted a change of command ceremony. Col. Leon Parrott transferred command of the District to Col. Philip Secrist. The ceremony was presided over by Brig. Gen. Richard Kaiser, Commanding General of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
