Brigadier General Mark Toy Visits Huntington

Brig. Gen. Toy, Commanding General of the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division visited the Huntington District on November 30 and December 1 as the final stop of his initial tour of the division since taking command in late August.

Gen. Toy began his visit at R. C. Byrd Locks and Dam where he was able to talk with elements of the Rivers Regional Repair Fleet (R3F) and get updated on the on-going miter gate maintenance and repair work.

Gen. Toy introduced himself at a Town Hall and Awards Ceremony held at the Huntington City Hall Auditorium. Not only did he discuss his career leading to becoming the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Commander, he discussed his command philosophy and vision of "Building Strong and Taking Care of People."

After his introduction, Gen. Toy presented the following awards:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 2016 Silver Jackets Coordinator of the Year: Ashley Stephens & JoAnn Combs

The Great Lakes and Ohio River Division and Huntington District 2015 Planning Excellence Award: Gus Drum

The Great Lakes and Ohio River Division and Huntington District 2016 Program Manager of the Year: Sharanna G. Romans

The 2016 Huntington District Natural Resource Management Recreation Employee of the Year: Toby Wood

The 2016 Huntington District Operation and Maintenance Castle Employee of the Year: James David Lloyd

The 2016 Huntington District Natural Resources Management Project of the Year: Marmet Locks & Dam

The Commander's Award for Civilian Service: Gregory M. Jones and David Brooks.

The Bronze de Fleury to Ginger V. Mullins

After the Town Hall and Award Ceremony Gen. Toy had lunch with the current members of the Huntington District's Leadership Development Program (LDP 1 and 2). The current classes include: Derek Wagoner, Jeanne Ann Mullins, Glenda Robinson, Ashley Pierson, Ashley Stephens, Zack Abbott, Greg Lovins, Bryan Muroski, Shane Taylor, Eric Jones, Kayla Price, Kyle Scholz, Andrew Auxier, Wanda Boothe, Megan Thompson, Cheryl Grimes, Kayla Adkins, Greg Feustel, Lora Greer, Kurt Baden, Ben Barth, Angela McClellan, Matt Orwig, Chris Phillips, Ashley Kiley, Rebecca Bennett and Autumn Johnson.

After the LDP luncheon Col. Secrist led Gen. Toy through the district headquarters to meet and greet with the Planning Center of Expertise for Inland Navigation and Risk Informed Economics Division (PCXIN-RED) and The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dam Safety Modification Mandatory Center of Expertise (DSMMCX) and Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Dam Safety Production Center (DSPC) where he presented his coin to recognize the excellence of: Suella Tabor, Sherry Grimes, Megan McKenzie, Doretta McComas, Steve Brewster, Scott Wheeler and Greg Adkins. Also, Gen. Toy was so taken by Rebecca Rowsey's performance of the National Anthem during the Town Hall and Awards Ceremony, he presented her his coin on the spot
