Lisa Hess, Natural Resource Management Specialist at Burnsville Lake, coordinated the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers involvement in a very successful Third Annual Freedom Festival at Burnsville Lake. She was involved in months of planning and a lot of hard work from the Burnsville Freedom Festival committee, the Town of Burnsville staff, the Burnsville Lake team, the Friends of Burnsville Lake members, the Burnsville Lake Volunteers, and the many dedicated members of the local community and surrounding counties.
The event was held on July 3, 2021, and was a huge success with an estimated 6,000 people in attendance. The common goal of the event was to celebrate Independence Day and to provide free entertainment to the local community, surrounding communities, and campers and boaters at Burnsville Lake. Visitors from all around the state, neighboring states, and as far away as Alaska also attended this spectacular celebration!
The festival had something for just about everyone, to include: cornhole tournament, kids’ freedom fishing tournament, lucky duck race, Freedom Car Show, and free live music with Five Star Rebellion, Jeffrey Wayne Band, Back in the Day, and the Kowboyz. Other free entertainment included Elite Rivals youth twirlers, Rock Wall, Euro Bungee, Bull Riding, Gaming Trailer, a bounce house, fire truck and a semi cab that could be explored, vendors with food, crafts, and much more! The day ended with the sky over the Burnsville Dam being illuminated with a fireworks display that could be enjoyed and seen by land and water.
Lisa is very much appreciated for her coordination and ability to partner with agencies to create a family event for the visiting public.
