Dozens of young hunters gathered by Dewey Lake for the 15th Annual Squirrel Hunt.

The 15th Annual Youth Squirrel Hunt, hosted at Dewey Lake in Van Lear, Ky., began August 15, 2014, as 61 youth participants between the ages of 4 to 15 took part.

They camped on the Shoreline Campground in order to get an early start on the Saturday morning squirrel hunt.

The afternoon also included events such as an archery shoot, a BB-gun shoot, canoeing, fish casting and turkey calling. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife performed a fish shocking demonstration to promote conservation education.

Corps of Engineers Natural Resource Specialist Cecil Cox and Park Ranger Kayla Price promoted the importance of water safety.

Sponsors such as the Floyd County Hunter Education Organization, Dewey Lake Fish and Game Club, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Kentucky Hunter Education Association provided a complimentary cookout and door prizes for visitors.
