Water Safety at Little Beaver Fishing Derby

Published June 19, 2015

Once again, to support the 24th annual fishing derby at Little Beaver State Park, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Park Rangers Carl Mullins and Travis Daugherty teamed up with West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to bring water safety to the event.

Rangers were on hand with “Bobber”, the 7-foot tall, life-jacket wearing water safety dog who instructed kids to be safe around the water and always wear a life jacket. The annual event that coincides with Free-Fishing Weekend is always fun for the whole family. This year’s activities included fishing, hay rides, and archery. Goodie bags containing Frisbees and coloring books were handed out during the event too. The grand prize of course was a rod and reel combo which was awarded to all 373 participants. The free rod and reel give a way, as well as lunches for everyone was made possible by several generous local donations.
