    2017 Ohio River Basin Consortium for Research and Education (ORBCRE) & Ohio River Basin Alliance (ORBA) Symposium

    Marshall University in Huntington, WV hosted the 33rd annual Scientific Symposium of the Ohio River Basin Consortium for Research and Education (ORBCRE), which was co-sponsored by the Ohio River Basin Alliance (ORBA). The theme for the symposium was “Partnerships Across the Ohio River Basin.” Panel discussion subjects were: Education & Outreach, Inland Navigation, Citizen Science, Flood Control & Risk Reduction, Drone-Based Assessment, Harmful Algal Blooms, Water Quality Monitoring, Citizen Engagement, Recreation & Tourism, and Environmental Restoration. Several USACE employees participated in these panel discussions.
  • Summersville Lake Master Plan

    Planning team members Ashley Stephens, Rodney Parker, Brian Lopez, and Christy Stefanides along with Operations and Real Estate team members attended the Summersville Lake Master Plan Public Workshop.
  • USACE River Engineering Committee, Madeira River, Brazil Reconnaissance

    Alex Neal from the Huntington District’s Engineering and Construction Division conducted a reconnaissance investigation of the Madeira River Navigation Channel as part of the USACE River Engineering Committee.
  • New Administrative Contracting Officer

    Peter “Tod” Smyrichinsky from the Construction Management Branch of the Huntington District’s Engineering and Construction Division has been appointed (Administrative) Contracting Officer for the United States of America with a warrant of $500,000. Through hard work and dedication, he completed all courses and requirements for the Level 1 and Level 2 Contracting Certification in 7 months.
