 Milton Local Protection Project

Location:  The Lower Mud River flood control project is located in Milton, Cabell County, West Virginia.

Description:  The project will provide flood protection for the City of Milton, WV.  Originally proposed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the project was transferred to the Corps under Section 580 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1996.  Variations of three alternatives – channel modification, river diversion and levee construction – were evaluated and screened based on effectiveness, environmental damages and cost.  The recommended plan is an 8,500-foot levee that provides protection up to the 250-year frequency event.
