Directions:

From Dover, Ohio take I-77 north to the Strasburg , Ohio exit. At the exit turn left. This road turns into State Route 21 going north. On State Route 21, turn left onto State Rt. 250 West. Approximately one mile from the intersection of State Route 250 and State Route 21 is the entrance to the project. See Map

General Information

Beach City Dam is located near the northern border of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, on Sugar Creek, a tributary of the Tuscarawas River, about nine miles above New Philadelphia, Ohio. The dam was completed in 1936 for flood control and water conservation in the Muskingum Watershed area. The embankment has a height of 64 feet and crest width of 35 feet. The dam is 5600 feet long and of that 1600 feet is the main embankment having an impervious core with pervious shells. The dike extension of the dam is impervious fill and has a height of 5 to 20 feet. A weir just above the intake structure maintains the reservoir level. Gates are 7X15 feet caterpillar type, located in the intake structure. Beach City also operates three levees and a pump station at Brewster, Ohio, located 5 ½ miles upstream of the dam. Restrooms are provided at the Beach City Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April - October).

Bicycling

Bicycles are permitted on all paved roads.

Boating

Beach City Lake has a 10 horse power limit. The public launch ramp operated by MWCD is CLOSED. Located on State Route 93 approximately 10 minutes driving time from the dam has become inundated by siltation. Camping

There are no camping areas at Beach City Lake.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted at the Beach City Lake Day Use Area and below the dam.

Handicapped Access

Universal Facilities are provided at Beach City Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April - October).

Hiking

There are no marked hiking trails at Beach City Dam, but hiking is permitted within surrounding woods.

No historical or cultural areas are present at Beach City Lake.

Hunting

Fishing is permitted at the Beach City Lake Day Use Area and below the dam.

Marina

There is no marina at Beach City Lake.

Picnicking

Picnic sites are located in the Day Use Recreation Area at Beach City Dam.

Swimming

There are no designated swimming areas at Beach City Lake.

Visitor Center

There is no visitor center at Beach City Dam.
