Directions: Clendening Lake is approximately 10 miles southeast of Uhrichsville, Ohio.  At Uhrichsville take State Route 800 south to ¼ mile east of Tippecanoe, Ohio.  Turn onto Milarcik Road (County Road 69), approximately ½ mile down the road is the entrance to Clendening Dam. See Map.

General Information


Clendening Lake is located in Harrison County, Ohio on the Brushy Fork of the Stillwater Creek, 1/2 mile east of Tippecanoe, Ohio, and 9 miles southeast of Uhrichsville, Ohio.  Clendening Lake was constructed in 1937.  It was built for flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife management.  At summer pool elevation, the lake is 1,800 acres.  Clendening Dam is a rolled earth fill with impervious core, 65 feet high, 3,700 feet long, with a top width of 20 feet, and a base width of 460 feet. The recreation facilities at Clendening Lake include a marina and a campground.  These are administered by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.  Clendening Lake has been designated to remain in an undeveloped "natural" state with few access points permitted.  The dam is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  There is a recreation area near the dam which includes picnic tables, grills, and a playground.  This area is for Day Use only.  Restrooms are provided at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April through October).  For tours of Clendening Dam, Intake Structure, and Flood Control Facilities, contact the Project Supervisor at (740) 658-3743.

Recreation


Bicycling

Bicycles are permitted on the state highways, and county roads.

Boating

There is a 10 horse power limit for all boats on Clendening Lake.  A Public Launch ramp is available near the Clendening Lake Dam year round.  The Clendening Marina operates April through October.  For more information, contact the marina at (740) 658-3691.

Be safe on the water.  Know how to swim and wear a life jacket.  You must have a life jacket for each person on a watercraft.  Take a safe boating course and learn boating laws.

Camping

Camping at Clendening Lake is available April through October.  Contact the following: Clendening Marina (April through October) at (740) 658-3691 or MWCD at (330) 343-6647.  Visit the MWCD (Muskingum Watershed Concervancy District) website at www.mwcdlakes.com.  Federal Recreation passes such as Golden Age, Golden Access, or America the Beautiful - National Park and Federal Recreation Lands Access Passes are not honored at MWCD facilities, but anyone over the age of 60 or those who have a Golden Buckeye Card receive a 10% discount.

Fishing

Fishing is permitted at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area and below the dam.

Hiking

Hiking trails are managed by Muskingum Watershed Conservancy district.  Information can be obtained from MWCD at (330) 343-6647 or visit their website at www.mwcd.org.

Horseback Riding

There are no horse trails available at Clendening Lake.

Hunting

Hunting on Conservancy District lands is regulated by MWCD and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife.  To obtain a map for Public Hunting and Fishing Areas, contact MWCD at (330) 343-6647 or visit their website at www.mwcdlakes.com. 

In the interest of safety, hunting on Conservancy District land is prohibited in or near restricted use areas as well as within 400 feet of residential areas, buildings, public roads and highways.

 Marina

Clendening Marina offers docking, boat rental, boating and fishing supplies. and snacks.  For all boating inquiries, contact Clendening Marina at (740) 658-3691.

 Picnicking

Picnic sites are available at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area adjacent to the dam.  Additional Picnic Sites and Picnic Shelters are located at Clendening Marina.  For more information, contact Clendening Marina at (740) 658-3691.

Swimming

There are no designated swimming areas available at Clendening Lake.  There is a boater swim area which is marked with buoys.

Visitor Center

There is no visitor center at Clendening Dam.
